A simple manual system
No motors, apps, or complicated mechanisms—just an intuitive process built around the flip.
Thoughtful products. Happier everyday routines.
Home of Flip & Fresh™ (also written Flip and Fresh), a patent-pending manual sifting litter-box system in development at Neat Nest Labs in Hudson, Wisconsin. Two matching pans and a screen separate reusable litter from waste with a controlled flip.
Flip and Fresh™ is a thoughtfully designed litter-box system that separates clean litter from waste—with two pans, a sifting screen, and a manual flip. Designed to make daily cat care simpler.

Meet Simon, then follow the two-pan system from screen placement and secure assembly through the full flip, sifting action, waste removal, and return of the covered pan. Bridget’s original Flip and Fresh™ song helps tell the story while the product design continues to evolve.
Concept preview: the pans and latches are based on CAD models. The revised tray screen, dome, and litter movement are illustrative; Simon and the human characters are AI-generated. Final design and operation may change.
The original Flip and Fresh™ song plays throughout. This guide describes the visual sequence.
[Original Flip and Fresh™ song plays throughout.] A woman enters the laundry room while Simon waits near the covered pan.
Remove the dome and position the screen so its recessed tray will hold waste after the flip.
Add the clean second pan above the screen. Secure both pans and the screen together with the latches.
The woman turns both attached pans and the screen together through a controlled 180-degree flip.
Reusable litter passes through into the clean pan. Waste remains in the recessed tray after the flip.
Lift the screen and tip the waste over the tray’s edge into a garbage can.
A higher-angle view shows the recessed tray floor and sidewalls. Screen design is still being refined.
Simon approaches and taps the covered pan, then moonwalks back. This earlier animation shows incorrect seam hardware; the dome does not latch to the pan.

Design clarification: the dome simply rests on a single pan; it does not latch to it. The pan latches join the two pans for flipping. Hardware placement in this earlier animated concept is illustrative and is being corrected.
Two pans. One recessed tray screen. You turn the latched assembly by hand, so reusable litter and waste end up where they belong.
Remove the dome, then place the screen over the pan containing used litter. Orient it so that after the flip, the recessed tray sits below its rim and holds the waste.
Place the matching empty pan upside down above the screen, rim to rim with the lower pan. Align the handle halves to form one joined handle at each end, then secure the identical pans using their two offset side latches—one on each long side of each pan—with the screen fully enclosed.
Rotate both attached pans and the screen together. Reusable litter passes through into the clean pan; waste collects in the recessed tray.
Remove the upper pan and lift the screen. Tip waste over the tray’s edge into a garbage can. Set the screen aside and clean the emptied used pan. Rest the dome on the pan holding reusable litter; the dome does not latch to the pan.
The sifted litter stays below when you lift the screen.
Lift it out and empty it over the edge—not through the screen.
Simplified diagrams illustrate the concept and screen orientation, not final product geometry. The revised screen and dome are concept models; final design and operation may change.

The perforated floor is shown recessed about an inch below the rim, forming a tray to hold waste after the flip. Revised design illustration; final depth and color are still being refined.
No motors, apps, or complicated mechanisms—just an intuitive process built around the flip.
The two-pan design lets the alternate pan become the clean surface after each flip.
Rounded forms, contained components, and a clean modern profile support both cats and their people.
See the actual two-pan prototype alongside illustrations of the revised recessed tray screen and proposed white polypropylene dome. The dome has not been physically prototyped. Screen design and color are still being refined; an all-green screen is an option under consideration.

The upper piece is an inverted pan. Each identical pan has two offset side latches—one on each long side—and the prototype uses the original, non-recessed screen between the pans.

Flip & Fresh™ (also written Flip and Fresh) is a patent-pending manual sifting litter-box system in development at Neat Nest Labs in Hudson, Wisconsin. It uses two matching pans, a sifting screen, and a controlled 180-degree flip to separate reusable litter from waste. It is not yet available for purchase.
No. It is a hands-on, manual concept built around two pans, a sifting screen, and a controlled 180-degree flip. It does not rely on motors or an app.
Each identical pan has two offset side latches—one on each long side. The matching pans latch together rim to rim, with the screen enclosed between them, for the manual flip. The dome is removed before assembly. After sifting and waste removal, it simply rests on the pan holding the reusable litter; the dome does not latch to the pan. See the four-step explanation for the full sequence.
Reusable litter passes through the screen into the clean pan. Waste clumps remain in the screen’s recessed tray. Lift out the screen and tip the retained clumps into a garbage can. The reusable litter stays in the clean pan.
Not yet. Flip and Fresh™ is patent pending and still in development. Bridget is refining the design as she works toward manufacturing.
The prototype gallery includes a real photograph of the two pans and an illustration of the revised screen, with its perforated floor recessed about an inch below the rim to form a tray. The proposed white polypropylene dome has not been physically prototyped. The commercial is an animated concept: the revised tray screen, dome, litter movement, Simon, and human characters are illustrative. Final design and operation may change.
The two pans and original, non-recessed screen have been physically prototyped. The revised recessed tray screen shown here is a design illustration, with final depth and color still being refined. The proposed white polypropylene dome has not yet been physically prototyped.
As a measured prototype reference, each tapered pan is about 15 × 12 inches at the bottom and 18½ × 15 inches at the top, with rounded corners. These are current prototype measurements—not final product specifications—and may change as engineering and development continue.

Hi, I’m Bridget Cavalier, the founder of Flip and Fresh™. About thirty years ago, while cleaning my cats’ litter boxes, I remember thinking, “There has to be an easier way.” Between scooping, scraping the bottom of the pan, and throwing away perfectly good litter, it was a chore I wanted to improve.
That idea stayed with me for decades. What finally helped me move forward was the encouragement of my closest friend, Elizabeth Hanson. Elizabeth is the owner of Neat Nest Grooming Studio in Hudson, Wisconsin. She believed in me and encouraged me to give this longtime dream a chance. I’m so grateful for her friendship and support.
With an engineer’s help, I turned that idea into detailed designs and a physical prototype. Today, Flip and Fresh™ is patent pending, and I’m refining the design as I work toward manufacturing.
My hope is simple: to make caring for the pets we love a little easier—and spend less time cleaning up after them.
Request updates as Bridget refines the concept and works toward manufacturing. We’ll keep the product’s development status clear every step of the way.
