The everyday challenge
Routine litter-box care can mean repeated scooping, scraping the pan, and discarding reusable litter along with waste.
Neat Nest LabsA manual two-pan litter-box concept designed to separate reusable litter from waste through one controlled 180-degree turn.

Routine litter-box care can mean repeated scooping, scraping the pan, and discarding reusable litter along with waste.
Flip and Fresh™ is being developed as a hands-on two-pan system that separates reusable litter from retained waste without motors or an app.
The screen sits inside the two-pan assembly during the turn. Afterward, reusable litter is in the clean pan and waste is retained in the screen’s recessed tray for disposal.
Remove the dome, then place the screen over the pan containing used litter, oriented so the recessed tray will sit below its rim and hold waste after the flip.
Place the matching empty pan upside down above the screen, rim to rim with the lower pan. Align the handle halves to form one joined handle at each end, then secure the two offset side latches on each identical pan—one on each long side.
Rotate the attached pans and enclosed screen together by hand.
Remove the upper pan, lift the tray screen, and tip retained waste into a garbage can. Set the screen aside, clean the emptied used pan, and rest the dome on the pan holding reusable litter; the dome does not latch.
Updated
The identical pans and their two offset side latches per pan have been physically prototyped. Each current tapered pan measures about 15 × 12 inches at the bottom and 18½ × 15 inches at the top, with rounded corners. These are prototype measurements, not final specifications.
The original non-recessed screen has been physically prototyped.
A recessed tray-screen refinement is illustrated while its final design and color are being developed.
The proposed dome has not yet been physically prototyped and rests freely on one pan.
Flip and Fresh™ is not yet available for purchase. The final design and operation may change as development continues.

Bridget developed Flip and Fresh™ from a longtime idea for making the everyday litter-box routine easier. With engineering support, that idea progressed into detailed designs and a physical prototype in Hudson, Wisconsin. She credits her closest friend, Elizabeth Hanson, with encouraging her to give the longtime idea a chance.
